Medications are prescribed based on type of pain patients have.  Opioids are classic pain medications used for acute as well as chronic pain.  For muscle spasm pain, muscle relaxants are used.  For nerve pain, nerve stabilizing medications are used.  For inflammatory pain, anti-inflammatory medications are prescribed.
